Sips and Smiles is a UK-based Community Micro-enterprise in Long Melford Suffolk for wellbeing care support offering home visits for person-centred companionship, emotional support , and home support, and as well as group engagement in care homes. I use where possible various creative activities, reflective conversations and inspiring outings as combination of practical tools for connection, communication, and day-to-day wellbeing, supporting adults and seniors living with challenging mental and physical health, people living with dementia, and families who want care that feels human.

The Story
They say a move across borders changes you, but when I relocated to the UK, it felt like the ground had been completely pulled from under me. Despite over three decades as a professional artist and a education in Social Sciences, I found myself in a challenging period of personal transition. The canvas was blank, and I was met with painful isolation and a deep, disorienting sense of lost purpose and connection.
In my search for connection, I began spending time with a new acquaintance living with dementia. It was a turning point. I realised that true healing doesn't require grand gestures; it begins in the smallest, most grounding moments - a shared smile, a warm cup of tea, a genuinely kind and compassionate conversation.
That experience reshaped how I view my life's work. I realised that creativity is not just about putting paint on a canvas or clay in someone's hands. Creativity is a way of thinking, a way of looking at the world, and a way of unlocking the human mind.
My background in social sciences came handy and I leaned deeply into this philosophy. I saw that before we can heal the body or stimulate the memory, we have to meet the mind where it is. I began using reflective conversations - inviting people to think differently, to remember their worth, and to gently unpack their thoughts.
This became the foundation of how I approach mental health and wellbeing. For seniors, individuals with disabilities, and those struggling with challenging mental health, life can feel incredibly isolating. By introducing creative thinking, sensory based activities and reflective dialogue, I create a safe space for people to process their emotions, rebuild their confidence, and find joy in the present moment.
From this deep focus on emotional wellness, the bridge to personalised dementia care became natural. When speech fails or memory fades, creative thinking stays alive. Through tailored engagement and shared laughter, I help individuals with dementia reach beyond the fog to find a connection - to their families, to the world around them, and to themselves.
The simple joy of a cuppa and laughter became the inspiration behind Sips & Smiles. Today, as an artist, dementia engagement professional, and holistic wellbeing coach, I offer inclusive, personalised care support and therapeutic sessions for all ages and abilities.
Through this work, I see daily that creativity and emotional intelligence is not just an activity - it’s a lifeline. A smile. A connection. A way back to self.
